Candida and Leaky Gut

Answering yes to three (3) or more of the above questions means there is a very high probability you are suffering from an overgrowth of Candida in your body.

Candida, or Candidiasis, refers to an overgrowth of the fungus, Candida albicans.  The candida organism is a normal inhabitant of our intestinal tract.  Under certain conditions, however, candida proliferates out of control, forcing itself into the intestinal lining, where it destroys cells in the microvilli, passes into the bloodstream and invades tissues where it does not belong (systemic candidiasis).  The destruction of cells in the microvilli reduce the permeability of the small intestine, thus creating what is commonly known as a “leaky gut”.

The symptoms of candidiasis are primarily allergic ones and can include any of the following:

  • Cravings for sugars, bread or alcohol

  • Indigestion/discomfort after eating fruits or sweets

  • Severe reactions to perfumes, tobacco, chemicals

  • Intolerance to alcohol

  • Hypersensitivity to certain foods

  • Diarrhea or constipation

  • Rectal itching or bladder infections

  • Coated or sore tongue

  • Chronic sore or scratchy throat, oral thrush

  • Feel bad all over, without apparent cause

  • Feeling of being in a mental fog

  • Hives, psoriasis or skin rash

  • Anxiety or depression

  • Tiredness, feelings of being drained

  • Athlete’s foot, toenail or fingernail fungus

  • Allergy or sensitivity to airborne molds

  • Allergy or sensitivity to moldy or fermented foods

  • Premenstrual tension, menstrual cramps

  • Vaginal discharge, burning itching

  • Endometriosis, uterine fibroids

  • Prostate problems, impotence

  • Itching of penis or groin

Most people with candidiasis have been users of antibiotics, steroid drugs, birth control pills or alcohol.  These drugs destroy the beneficial microflora in the intestines that are the natural antagonists of Candida albicans and need to be avoided.

Everyone with candidiasis has acquired an allergy to the candida organism.  This allergy paralyzes the immune processes that would normally keep the candida in check.  The allergy can be reversed by taking a homeopathic 30C dilution of candida albicans – 10 drops under the tongue, two to three times/day, between meals.  If one does nothing else other than that to treat the condition for two months, the population will likely be back to normal within six months.  That time can be shortened considerably by also taking anti-fungal agents like garlic, caprylic acid, and probiotics (to displace candida in the gut).

If the candidiasis is systemic (i.e., in the bloodstream), then oregano oil will likely also be of benefit.  It is very potent and needs to be taken two to three drops under the tongue, twice daily, between meals and 30 minutes after taking the homeopathic remedy.

Although candida albicans is a natural inhabitant of the digestive tract, it does not belong in the bloodstream.  It can only arrive there by passing through an intestinal wall that is more permeable than it ought to be.  Therefore, wherever systemic candidiasis is found, a leaky guy will likely also require attention (more on that next blog).

Symptoms of a leaky gut can include any combination of the following:

  • Constipation and/or diarrhea

  • Abdominal pain or bloating

  • Indigestion or flatulence

  • Mucus or blood in stools

  • Chronic joint or muscle pains

  • Frequent fatigue, tiredness

  • Fuzzy thinking

  • Confusion, poor memory

  • Mood swings aggravated by sensitivities/intolerances

  • Poor exercise tolerance

  • Weak immunity

  • Shortness of breath

  • Skin rashes, hives, eczema

  • Asthma, bronchitis, respiratory infections

  • Sinus or nasal congestion

  • Food/alcohol allergies/intolerances

  • Alcohol consumption makes one feel sick
